Mrs. Walker has one son. His name is Harry. When he was four, he had a child’s bicycle. It was red and white, and it had small wheels at its sides, so it always stayed up. Then Harry did not have a bicycle for a long time. Now he is twelve and he wants one.
Mrs. Walker goes to work by car every day, and she takes Harry with her to his school, and brines him back when he finishes. His school is on one side of the town and Mrs. Walker’s office is on the other side.
“A lot of my friends have bicycles and they ride to school on them.”, Harry said to his mother one day. “Their mothers don’t need to take them to school and bring them home again.” But his mother said to him, “Your father and I are going to buy you a nice bicycle soon.”

There are millions of different machines in the world, and most of them need electricity to make them work. A lot of electricity is made in power stations which burn oil or gas. However, there will not always be a lot of oil, and we cannot replace the oil which we use. We will need to find other kinds of energy.
One natural source of energy is water power. Egypt already uses it at the Aswan High Dam to make electricity. This is called hydro-electric power. Another important source of energy is the wind. The power of the wind has been used in windmills for hundreds of years to drive machines. Windmills can also produce electricity. In the future there could be many windmills on the coast of the Red Sea, where there is a lot of wind. Egypt and Denmark are working together to make these windmills.
In Egypt, as in other countries, some companies are beginning to use another kind of natural power to make electricity, solar power. The systems are expensive, but they work well. The advantage is this: the fuel, sunshine, is free!
